A Palette Perfected

A TrakSYS-powered production management success story at AkzoNobel, supporting integration with SAP at the Vilafranca facility

AkzoNobel is a global supplier of paints and coatings, serving industrial, commercial, and consumer markets worldwide. At its Vilafranca, Spain manufacturing site, the team supports high product demand while maintaining strict quality and process standards.

As lead-time pressures increased, the facility faced challenges tied to manual processes, limited real-time process control, and disconnected data across production, weighing, dosing, and ERP systems. These constraints made it harder to reduce variability, improve accuracy, and respond quickly on the factory floor.

To move forward, AkzoNobel pursued a more digital, connected production management approach that built on existing investments while establishing a reliable system of record for production, quality, and material data.

In this case study, we explore how AkzoNobel leveraged TrakSYS to:

  • Digitalize shop-floor records and reduce reliance on paper
  • Establish a unified system of record for production and batch data
  • Improve real-time and historical visibility for fact-based decision-making
  • Integrate manufacturing operations with SAP ERP
  • Strengthen control over weighing, dosing, and material consumption
  • Support more consistent, efficient production execution
