Get to know the people behind the platform! Tyler Scott, Parsec’s Junior Consultant, discusses his career and gives a peek into how he helps manufacturers get the answers they need.

Musician. Adventurer. Solution Facilitator.

Most recently, he wowed us with videos from his Canadian dog-sledding trip. On other occasions, he has regaled us with highlights from his concerts, or how—with minimal prior experience—he partook in a marathon. Spend any measure of time with Tyler Scott, and you will quickly come to know him as a man of many passions whose talents and capacity for joy and kindness have no bounds. However. When potential customers or partners first pick up the phone to speak with this immaculately bearded stranger, they may be wondering: who is Tyler Scott?

To answer this question, we sat down with the man himself to discuss life, how he helps manufacturers get the answers they need, and what he’s looking forward to in 2025.

Q: Tell us about yourself; give us a fun fact!

What to say? I grew up playing sports, and, as I come from a family of musicians, I’ve had a guitar in my hands since day one. Outside of work, you can find me snowboarding, hiking, in the gym, attending or performing concerts, and spending time with family and friends. As for a fun fact?  I’ve jumped out of an airplane. Twice.

Q: What drew you to sales roles and how has that initial hook evolved with time?

I’ve always been people-oriented and enjoyed helping others. I spent my college years working in hospitality and then, after graduating, started work as a Supply Chain Compliance Analyst. While the work itself was rewarding, I missed being in a customer-centered role. After working in various sales positions, I saw an opening at Parsec and, well, the rest is history.

Q: Talk to us about your day-to-day: how are people getting connected with you? What types of things do you discuss? Do the people you talk with tend to come to the conversation with a specific problem or ask?

People contact me through various channels and efforts. Some reach out after visiting Parsec’s website, while others connect with me via LinkedIn, and still others respond to an email I or the company sent them. There is more to it, but yeah, that’s more or less the high-level summary.

As for the conversations: most are about the operational challenges people or businesses are looking to solve. Whether it’s digitalizing and reimagining paper-based operations, reducing operating costs, maintaining compliance, or increasing production—people tend to come to the conversation with specific problems in mind. However, there is also a large collection of people who come to me seeking guidance. Is MES the right solution to achieve their goal? Can Parsec help them? Have we helped other manufacturers overcome these obstacles, etc.

In each instance, I do my best to listen, understand what the business is looking to do, and advise accordingly.

Q: Given your experience, what is something you wish potential customers or partners knew before they got to talking with you? Any advice?

This is an interesting question. When I look at things like our State of Manufacturing Survey and when I read commentary from people like Bill Rokos, our CTO, the notion that technology adoption isn’t ubiquitous within our industry stands out to me. If someone gets in contact with me and, over the course of our conversation, I can glean that they aren’t really sold on the value/necessity of technology—be it MES or otherwise—I do what I can to instill in them the notion that adopting new technologies isn’t a luxury: it’s necessary.

With our industry moving further and further into Industry 4.0, businesses that have yet to begin their digital transformation journeys risk falling behind.

Q: What is your definition of “success” in your role?

As is the case in all sales roles, I need to be a “Jack of all trades,” as it were. Success means being able to understand and empathize with people’s challenges. It means demonstrating my domain expertise by asking pertinent questions and—if applicable—guiding people toward solutions. Success also means carefully managing my time and showing up for my team on a daily basis.

Q: Think back over your time at Parsec. What stands out as your proudest moment?

My time at Parsec has been nothing short of fantastic. Since joining, I’ve grown both professionally and personally. You’ll have to forgive my recency bias, but I ended 2024 by getting promoted to the role I’m currently in. I was truly honored to have the company recognize and reward my work and my daily contributions to my team and the greater Parsec ecosystem.

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

One of my favorite quotes is from the famous stoic, Marcus Aurelius, “You have power over your mind—not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”

While we may not be able to control what happens to us in life, we can control how we respond. With the right perspective, everything in life is an opportunity for growth.

Q: Anything else you’d like to share before we wrap up?

I am beyond excited to continue the upward trajectory alongside the Parsec team and see what new heights we reach!
