Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) has emerged as a powerful method of evaluating the productivity of production systems.

OEE accounts for inefficiencies related to equipment, consumables, personnel, procedures, and quality. By definition:

• OEE = Availability * Performance * Quality, where:

• Changeover, sanitation, preventive maintenance (PM), major breakdowns, breaks, and meetings are typically considered Availability Losses.
• Minor Stoppages or Reduced Speed is considered Performance Losses.
• Defects or Rework are considered Quality Losses.
